Whats software do people use to add special effects to video?

VirtualDub with a selection of filters

The MSU Cartoonizer is fun (but takes time to render each frame).



But if you want Light Sabres or Star Trek transporters, well - you will need something a little more expensive and complicated than vdub probably

after effects, on occasion -- it strikes me as a kind of "photoshop" for video. I'm no expert, though...

I use Premiere. Has the same abilities as after efects, but you have to create your own effects. I use xara for most of the effects and title work.

Sony Vegas comes with lot's included, although I have not pushed those creative edges as of yet so can't really say for sure how they stack up... pretty easy editing though
