Coloured shadow effects not functioning

When I try to use a coloured shadow effect in CorelDraw X3, it does not show up. I can see the effect box in wireframe mode, but it is not visible in the preview. ???

Check to see your merge mode, in some merge modes, you may see nothing because they interact with the color underneath them, if there is a white page behind them, you may not see your shadow. Also check that your shadow is set to Average, Medium or Outside, if set to inside, you will not see the shadow unless the object to which it is attached is transparent. If you have colored the shadow using a spot color, check to see if you have set the percentage slider to 0%, you will not see a shadow if you have a 0% shadow over white.
