    Default Coke can Ist attempt

In order to increase my abilities (Ok I'm useless)
I decided to endevour to create something from scratch!

    This had two distinct advantages

    1. It prevented me from going shopping with my wife
    2. I learnt something.

So here's my "attempt" at a diet coke can.

    Insults and comments appreciated.

Thumbs up Re: Coke can Ist attempt

First attempts at anything are applauded in these forums.

Suggestions, comments and recommendations are plentiful. Insults, you won't find here.

A fine job BTW. I'm sure some of the Xara buffs here will put you in the right track to tutorials etc for the right finish.

A very good effort if that is really your first attempt! Are you striving for realism or not? Realism requires that you develop an understanding of materials and their relationship with light and the reflections of other objects around them. Your coke can looks a little flat. See if you can work on that to give it some depth. And the lettering doesn't look as if it is wrapped onto the can, play with moulds and see what you can do.
If someone tried to make me dig my own grave I would say No.

really good , certainly for a first try.
maybe use the mould tool to make the logo/tekst
    a bit rounder?

I tend to look busy with Xara in order not to paint the bathroom rather than not go shopping but the principal is the same. The longer you avoid shopping the better you will get with xara.
I agree the can looks a little flat, try curving it top and bottom and toughening up the shading a little.

    derek

Here's a real coke can - use this as the basis for rounding off your own illustration:

    Thanks

I am not necessarily searching for total realism but I'm looking for something better than I've got.

    I'll have another look late

    cheers

Have a look at Egg's beer glass tutorial - the principles for drawing the basic glass apply to most any cylindrical object.
"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.

Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.
