More experimenting.
The image on the right is my best effort for a chrome look from X3D.
The left image has been touched up in Xara picture editor (contrast).

Good, very good. Prefer the left, untouched.

Sorry, I labelled both of them 'right'.
The left component is the altered version.
This next one is the chrome version altered in X1.

Hi Anas,
I was curious, what kind of chrome effect my 3D graphics package would export.
btw: Is your object a flashlight?

It's toothpaste coming out of a tube

Wow Remi, can they really do that with imported bitmaps. Which one did you use.
Thanks Frank, you have just damaged my ego.

PS Remi look at the original metal object on the 'Glitter Gel' thread

Er, no. That's not a bitmap - it's a 3D object. I've build it in Carrara Studio 5, after I saw your image. It's a so called spline object: You're able to draw (or import) a line with some vector drawing functions (straight line, spline, rectangle, oval, polygon, ...) and your 3D editor builds a 3D object of this (see attached a hardcopy of the so called "spline editor" together with your object). There are also other 3D objects possible, but to reproduce your object, the spline editor was a good choice.
Ok, I've found the thread, now. Sorry for the confusion.

Remi
Thanks for that Remi. It reminds me of my years in engineering (toolmaking).
Your post has also made me realise the importance of background image in making the main image look better.

I forgot to add that this component was finished in X3D while the reflection was made in Xtreme using the (silver) chrome plug-in and some lines.
I still haven't worked out how to do the chrome yet.

There is a display at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco that you all would probably love. Reflective 3D forms on mirror.
Kind of an " Art imatating Art" project.
Really beautiful, as well as a great reference for reflection.
My apologies to the Artist as I can't seem to find his name in my notes to give him proper credit.
Great work!
