To elaborate - XPS is a "packaged" format that contains many XAML files in one archive. It has other features too, but thats it in a nutshell.

Some XPS information for End Users is available at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/xpsusers.mspx

    The XPS overview at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/default.mspx

Windows XP SP2 users can download and install the components necessary to create XPS documents. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx

As an open published specification and tools for end users and developers available for download this may overtake PDF very quickly.

Just like XAML which it relies on.

XPS is really nice and fills a lot of holes people have been complaining about in PDF's for years, and the format is a LOT cleaner (Having written a PDF drive myself a few years ago for a company before they were common place).

Also MS Office 2007 will support XPS as will many other MS software and third parties are jumping on quick as well.

But there is no XPS support for Windows versions <Windows XP.
And it's necessary to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 under Windows XP.
And no support for Mac OS X.
    And no support for Linux.

Yes there is. Office for one supports XP, and office 2007 runs fine on XP as well as 2003.

So? A lot of software uses .NET 1.1 and 2.0, wont take 3.0 long to get on machines.

Look up WPF/E. Also third party vendors are allowed to implement at least XAML and probably XPS.

I think Remi was saying Windows versions less than XP.

Win2000 and older are not supported by .NET 3.0 and therefore XAML and XPS. They are a bit long in the tooth (old).

Doug, I was providing a link to czhower's bio. He mentioned checking his bio in a reply to Remi. I thought I would provide a link so it would be readily available.

The a.k.a. (Also Known As) was added because in his bio he mentions his nickname is Kudzu.

No problems, Bill, I just wondered if there was a sub-text that you were hinting at. Since I had never heard of him, I wondered what I missed. That's all.

    Cheers

    Doug
