I'm greatly enjoying this thread. Seeing a pic of Barra brings out my Scottish pride even though my ancestors left Scotland about 150 years ago.
Seeing the desert pics is a joy too. I once visited the Grand Canyon and seeing the desert brings back memories.
Marcia -- I figured out where you live on Google Earth. Unfortunately you are in an area with low resolution satellite imagery. (That could change anytime as Google update the images when better ones are available). See my attached image. I'd say the marker is within 100m of your home. If you use Google Earth, I can email you the placemarker (.kmz) file.
Regards, Ross
I live in Dunoon which is 25 miles west of Glasgow on the Clyde. The picture shown below is the Holy Loch, right next to Dunoon, and it is where I do most of my sailing and teaching people to mess around in boats. This loch also was also a base for the U.S. Navy's Polaris submarines for nearly 30 years which now thank goodness is back to its pristine best with only a marina to spoil its natural look. Dunoon is a great place to stay as it is the gateway to the Scotish Highlands.
Design is thinking made visual.
This is fun! Thanks for the picture, Ross! No, I never used Google Earth, but I'm certainly going to (then I can look up your corner on the earth... )
molucca: aren't they super! I've just one cat, she likes looking over the garden too, but I think just to find and catch mice!

Albacore it's a small world, I was born in Dunoon, in fact I lived there for many years,Ardenslate, Innellan and Sandhaven.
Here's a photo of Mingulay Island beach, which is about 12 miles from Barra, the island is now deserted but used to have a population of about 200.
The school on Barra where I teach visits Mingulay every year in June which is when I took this photo.

This is a sunset from a beach on the west side of the island.
