I saved a drawing to TGA in Expression 3 with an alpha channel. It didn't seem to read in Photoshop, but I was able to load a selection in Painter. The TGA was a transparent graphic in Expression 3. I have an application that will save to PNG, but it won't save the alpha channel. Anyway, it appears that a TGA can have an alpha saved with the file. Rich

Expression 3.3 is a free download from Microsoft. You would need a passport account. I was just looking to see if TGA could handle transparency.

Several of the capabilities were dropped in the next version, but 3.3 is a non expiring trial version.

I created a TGA in Photoshop, and read it back. It had an alpha channel, but the channels had a white background.

I read the TGA from Expression and got a similar thing. The channel backgrounds were black, however.

I read the Photoshop TGA into Expression, and it loaded as a transparent graphic.

Maybe each application displays a TGA file differently.

A copue of views of TGAs in Photoshop. Even though I created one of the files in Photoshop, the background was white when opened in PS. I have an album program that shows TGAs the same way even though they are transparent.
