Mine Mine! I want it all ! You get ***** (five stars) from me on this one. Not only am I fascinated by your work, but also by how quick you managed to perform it. I know artists, and I know it would take them several days to accomplish such a work. You made it in several hours (so it seems) ?

"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.

Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.

All hail Grafixman on his accomplishment. Great job.

When do you divy up to your fans?

I don't know if this counts as 3D, but I did this to help my son with his homework - I did it in Xara.

If you cut it out and fold it, you'll get a 3D chest.

Note: the lid top (long bit hanging lowest in the diagram is longer than it should be - I was getting lazey at that point and cut it to size during the build.

Hey! That's a neat idea. Too bad my printer's busted, but I can easily get that printed and pasted up. Lots of other possibilities here. Reminds me of some paper model sites I've come across and bookmarked:
    http://mizuirogakuen.hp.infoseek.co.jp/index.html
    http://cp.c-ij.com/japan/papercraft/...ng/statue.html
Or how about using the pic as a template and UVmap for a 3d model? A slowly rotating 3d model based on your posted pic would be a good screensaver, Turan.
Fooling around with Bryce and those gems dxf files and materials presets. Not too bad, really. Here's a render of some of the gems in Bryce. Also included is a pretty big zip file of the extracted gems in psd format. Perhaps they could be useful as an object spray for 2d artworks?

Gman, you've got it!!! Those gems look great! I can't even imagine how you made all those facets. Now put some of those in the treasure chest... and a lottery ticket too.

Bob, I didn't. Those were downloaded from this site:
    http://www.3dlapidary.com/HTML/Models.htm
There are also Bryce materials presets that you can use for them. Poke around the site for the link. Then it is just importing them to Bryce, tweaking with the camera position, sky and atmosphere, lights, etc. Then press the render button. Enable the total internal reflection in the render options for an even more detailed render.
Couldn't help myself. Just have to play with Turan's pic. Here's a quickie UV mapped cube and half cylinder with the picture applied as the UV map. And a quickie gif animation, too...
