    Default Soldier

First of all....thanks to all of you for your comments and help on the ballcap. Here is another attempt I did. Ended up doing a fill cause I couldn't seem to get the right feel and texture for the ground. Again....I welcome the comments and experience you folks have... Also I hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not, please suggest another.

    Thanks

LogoKid, I think your "comment" was truly off-base,
to say the least. "Nasty", would be more accurate.

LogoKid, you seem to be objecting to his art as violence,
yet it is you who are spewing words of hatefull insinuation.

BNorton was asking for an evaluation of his art piece.
I see nothing in BNorton's picture, nor in his request, to
warrant such a reply from you.

If depicting a soldier is "wrong", then so should be
any art that depicts any weapon, such as airplanes,
tanks, etc. In fact, any object can be a potential
"weapon", or a tool of violence, including rocks, pencils,
cars, and computer game characters. All of which have
been shown in these forums in times past.

The artist's skill has recorded history since the caves of Lasceaux. You have joined a great heritage.
Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

Superb drawing BNorton, the attention to detail, like the stitching is excellent,
the backpack outstanding. The gang keep coming up with new techniques
and to a tyro like me I'm learning all the time. A well deservd five star.

As both artist and ex-professional soldier with 30 years of experience under my belt - I think this is a good detailed study of the modern US infantryman and his equipment. I particularly like the detail of the 'Camel-Back' drinking pack on the GI's back.

But the problem with the overall image lies in the repeating background - which is poor - lets down the good work. I suggest this is a perfect example of when a photo background can be justified. So find a good shot of a sandy track with boot prints and use that.

For those who would criticise 'the soldier' - remember that it is they who risk their lives to protect your freedom. There are plenty of countries and organisations out there more than willing to steam in and take it from you. I have lost many good friends in defence of our realm and am saddened by such narrrow-minded prejudice.

Ray, the art is truly wonderful, and in this forum are lots of ex-military people, some retired. We are all here to enjoy the hobby of art/design/web development and not for political debates. Those who pass this line deliberately to cause a dispute are not welcome. Logo Kid earned a "red card" if you haven't noticed, to show such disputes are uncalled for. The next one is a ban.

There are many personalities from various points of the globe with different personal experiences and points of view. In here we leave those out to enjoy some other hobbies

P.S. Soquili was in the Air force as far as I know, and I was in the navy (First Sgt)
