Can somebody tell me what "spurious" means?
Xara seems to have problems with it.

Spurious means false, but not in the sense that it's a bad thing always.
It's like if two items and one item looks exactly like the other.
There is a difference in that item B for example is a fake and is contructed entirely different from item A.
However, when you look at them, they appear identical.
The French would say Faux for this type of 'spurious.'
Other interpretations could mean the legitimacy of something. Like a legal document. The original legal document is legitimate and a copy of the same document is not legitimate because there is no certification detected.
Still another definition has to whether or not something is declared legal or not legal under the eyes of the local law.
If I was born in American in 2006 to unmarried parents I would be illegitimate. That is, not legally recogized by local law as having a proper birth according to custom and practices.
However, if I was born in 1506 as a Native American, I would be of legitimate birth as there was no such thing as marriage in Native American custom. They used bonding ceremonies and the bride was given away by her father for property. So it was more or less a business deal with the blessing of the bride's father.
Anyway, verbose is my middle name today...
I would say that Xara just found a bad link to part of program and it called it spurious. Hard to say what causes that.
Another meaning for spurious is unwanted; as in a spurious radio signal that interferes with reception of a desired radio signal.
It may be an error that doesn't provide debug information by the routine where the error occured. This may happen when the error occurs in a subroutine or process called by another subroutine. It is difficult to determine in which process the error occured, so that could be a spurious error.

spurious refers to a type of metal attachment cowboys used to use to spur along the critters they rode on
if wearing such attachments, the cowboys were said to be spurious
