Does your desktop use Alt-Click for anything else? In KDE, Alt-Click grabs a window and dragging moves it. KDE captures that input before it gets to Xara, and I wasn't able to Alt-Click select objects until I disabled it.

Yep. You'll have to chose a different window movement key in System->Preferences->Windows->Window Movement Key.

And we should be providing an option in LX to chose something different for select under (indeed to reconfigure all the hotkeys).

Sometimes I like to you the tab key also. If you have a lot of items it is not very efficent but sure is fun watching the little rascal jump all over the place.....frank

Another option is to go into the xaralx options under "Mouse Options" and set Right Mouse Button to "Alt+Click". This of course presumes that you don't often use the right mouse button popup menu.

For me, none of the options in that menu are interesting at all (I use the items from the "Arrange" menu by far more often than I need to turn snapping on and off), so this saves some extra hassle configuring your window manager.

    Thank you all

Select under is an essential function. I try all your advice. But for now there is not complete satisfactory solution under Ubuntu Dapper with Xara LX 0.7

As far as I can tell, the only easy one is disabling alt-click in metacity. There may be a secret preference to change the modifier used. I'll file a bug and see what happens.

    Another thing around this theme.

Is XARA LX able to apply "select under' inside a grouped objects in order to access each object inside the group?

    Thank.

Use Control +click to select objects wihin a group. Once one object is selected use the Tab key to cylcle through the object in the group. Also works to select the start and end object in a blend. I cannot test this on XaraLX at the moment so I do not know how well it is implemented as of yet.
