I like it gidgit, and the chess set too.
I'm gonna have to give the chess set a try.

    Hi Mike... thanks

Alright, I look forward to checking it out Mike...

here is a mug, slightly tinted green... this is about as far as I could go with color tinting before the reflections really come into play...

Bill - 200% improvement! Looks great!

Teknal - Like Mike said, just make sure you save in AI v9. And you can use the main menu's File --> Merge to add it to your current scene.

gidgit - Good looking mug, I like the green colored one.

    Thanks Randy...

I agreee Bill, that looks really nice... your glass has improved over the first by a longshot

Well, here's my final one for this segment of glass anyways... it's just a clear glass but slightly adjusted...

    @Mike - Thanks, it works!

@gidgit - I like this last one, you can see the inside bottom on the opposite side, on your first scene you couldn't see it very well.

Thanks Mike, yes it is a palm tree. Actually it's a reflection map that Gary Bouton posted here some time back, or was it in one of his TrueSpace tutorials.

Thanks TekNal. As Mike and Randy said, export from Xara as ai/eps.

Thanks Randy. Your advice on the specular and reflection worked great.

Thanks Gidgit. Great looking chess set and the glass got better with each post.

thanks guys... this was fun, almost felt like I was in class with you... everybody having a good time and improving along the way...

Actualy, I must confess hehe, I showed Stu my first one and he says " looks good James... cough, raise the refraction, cough cough " He's such a funny guy...

and so I did... also, ... slightly changing the angle of the cam, and.. I got a far better result.... hmmm, cool

    If any are interested...

    color... a medium dark green @ 100 %

    transparency... white @ 100%, fresnel, refraction @ 1.55

    reflection... white @ 100%

    specular... plastic, width @ 6%, hieght @ 100 %

and when I tinted this, basically all that was done...from the clear glass... was changing the transparency color to a very light green, ( transparency color r232,g255,b243 @ 100 % )

wow, amazing that just changing this one color so slightly can effect the overall tint of the glass so much... I just tried this green tint with the 1.55 refraction and it looks pretty decent...

Hope this is some help to any... I mean it isn't perfect, but, with the right tweaks, cam angles, lights, scene, etc.... I mean go nuts eh... maybe some of you will find a new set of settings from this which you would kindly share with us and we will get better and better

oh, and btw, that was a great tip re the ai import Mike... thanks eh
