Some of your rings go over when they should go under and under when they should go over.

    Hi Gary,

I've used this image as reference: http://www.mediachance.com/realdraw/xray.jpg

Yeah, 7 shapes! One shape better than mine, Egg.

I haven't tested Real Draw. I saw only their Release Notes together with their example image and I thought, it would be fun, to recreate it with Xara Xtreme.

You'll find my solution in the attachment.

I use it for the special vector buttons I can take into MultiMedia Builder. I wasn't able to come close to their sharp, clean appearance any other way, even with Xara's excellent bitmap capabilities. Makes a difference in the look of our demo disks. Those buttons really are worth the price.

I also like the libraries and the Sparkle tool, but not enough to do any more than play with them occasionally. If I want to accomplish something, it's always Xara.

I've recognized, one ring isn't necessary in my drawing:
    8 - 1 = 7 rings, too.

A solution that uses the fewest rings possible: none.

    * You're not allowed to slice (cut), substract or intersect the shapes.
    check

    * You're allowed to create some duplicates.
    check

    * The best solution is the one with the smallest number of rings.
    check

    * You can use the the .XAR file in the attachment to start.
    check

    * You have to post your solution as .XAR file.
    check

Essentially, a bitmap was created from a carefully crafted set of objects (which totally broke the rules, but weren't submitted as a solution). The bitmap was then filled on the three original rings that had been added together to make a shape. Hence, the fewest rings were used, i.e. none.

Gary, you're right. The rings from RealDraw are wrong. Shame on them...

You do realize that this is just an optical illusion, though...
One wouldn't be able to completely interlock tubular 3d rings and still have them laying flat without having to warp at least one of them in the real world...

Well, after some thinking I came up with two solutions, depending a bit on what you are looking for.
In this version I used only three objects, one for each ring.
