PS action/script which imports files to layers?

I need a PS action/script which does the exact opposite of what the File: Scripts: Export Layers to Files does -- namely to import all the files in a folder and make each file a new layer in one document. I am reasonably adept with Actions, I have liked to think -- and yet I cannot crack this nut. I suspect a JavaScript or VB script is needed -- but that is too geeky for a poor artist and out of my league. Does anybody here have any neat ideas? (Yes, I have googled much -- but found nothing useful.)

Would never say it couldn't be done, but it wouldn't be straight forward, if possible at all. Photoshop really should have this function by now.

Anyway, the work around is reasonably easy. Open Photoshop, then switch to Image Ready. Use the button under the two colour wells on the Toolbox. From Image Ready use the option to import a folder of files as a series of frames. Now just switch back to Photoshop and all those frames will import as layers. Just remember to close Image Ready afterwards to reduce the demand on memory.

And yes, it's one of those "obvious" features which really should be in Photoshop CS2.

In the Bridge use Russel Browns Place-a-matic - this places the selected images on separate layers.

Umm Ive just downloaded 300 new PS actions, but dont know how to use it.
I first open a new file 1300x1200. Pressed ok. I used the Type tool to enter some words. Then i press Alt+9 for the actions toolbar. I loaded one action called ( Action Fx Wicked REd) I press the arrow down and it has a BUNCH of options. I am SUPER UBER NOOB in using Actions, If anyone that can help explain this would be GREAT.

I realize this thread is quite old, but this is the top google result for "files to layers." Thats how I got here.

You don't need any scripts if you have bridge cs4 or higher. Shift select your files in bridge, then choose tools>photoshop>Load Files into Photoshop Layers.
