Win NT uses unicode internally, where Win9x uses ascii internally. Some programs are using unicode so they are more internationally compatable, Win9x sometimes has problems converting unicode to ascii and vice versa. I don't know that XX is using unicode, but this may be the difference in between how characters show up in NT and 9x.

    Hi Rubem

Thanks for highlighting the issue - I will forward your problem to the development team.

If you do have a problem that you want answered quickly, can I suggest that you contact Xara directly. We do try to monitor these forums regularly, but sometimes other priorities prevent us from doing so. Xara does have a support route - you can email support@xara.com or telephone +44 1442 350000.

    Thanks
    Ed

    Thanks for your answer.

I've already sent this problem to support@xara.com twice, with no response, a long time ago. So when Xara X was released and I confirmed that the problem persists, I posted the message to this forum.

On another note, I'd be pleased to help you fix this problem if necessary.

I found the same problem when trying Xara. There is a workaround that seems to work. Just type the text in the Windows Notepad, copy it and paste it in Xara. Your accented characters should appear correctly.

Another convenient workaround is: Type your text directly in XX using any available edit box (there are four in the Text Tool infobar), then cut it (Ctrl-X) and paste it (Ctrl-V) onto your drawing.

This works only for short, one-line text blocks. As Joan points out, Notepad is a much better solution for general use.
