Well, I'm still confused but at least I got to eat a peanut butter sandwhich out of the deal, so maybe loosing the thread of the thread wasn't all that bad.

Tell the truth, I really never open the 3d since I can't do much, therefore it's not very interesting. Extreme now, that's another subject.

No problem! Even though we have our inter-service rivalries, us military men have to stick together!

    Good evenlng Egg

I have read this thread several times and have found it quite confusing but I have just been looking at your tutorial and find it excellent. It clear, concise and the presentation is excellent, with only one fault in my opion. Maybe our computers are using different screen resolutions but while reading the tutorial I have to keep scrolling left and right since it is about 25% too large for my screen. I see this quite often on the web, web designers have nice new fast machines and start designing for what they see on their computers but forget that not everybody has the same equipement or the same fonts, etc, etc. But as far as the tutorial itself and the way you have accomplished it I can find no fault, I give you top points.......but this is not simple html....is it flash perhaps or how have you managed to created it?

    Cheers Seagull

It was created in Flash. Re the screen resolution - my apologies. I created the tutorial for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution (I use 1600 x 1200 dual screen set up). You must be running 800 x 600 to have the horizontal scrolling problems.

The 1024 x 768 choice of resolution was deliberate, knowing that this tutorial was targeted at mainly graphic users, I assumed the vast majority would be using 1024 x 768 or above. The problem with creating at 800 x 600 is the lack of screen real estate. It's a problem when creating clients web sites. I now explain the problem to the client & let them decide whether to cater for the 800 x 600 resolution visitors.

Anyway, that said, you can view the tutorial here, which doesn't require scrolling but the screen grabs won't look as clear.

Why thank you Egg, that so nice. And with a 1600 x 1200 screen resolution you must has quite the pair of eyes. Yes, I am running 800 x 600 (you are good) and if I could get it to 200 by 200 I might be tempted. As I mentioned to Ankhor earlier, I am running a 466 celeron with a mighty big 6 gig hard drive and 191 megs of ram under win 98 and since it works absoluty fine for me I will probably continure running it for the next 3 or 4 years, if not longer. The only major problem is caused by the anti virus program causing it to crash 2 or 3 times a day. I partially solved that by stopping the automatic updates and now do it manually. But I must warn you, web sites where I must scroll bore me very quickly and I usually leave them very early, and I am probably not alone. While on this line, do you know why some program open certain windows which are too big for your screen and are none adjustable. If I remember, my canon program for the camera is like that and to click the okay button I have to hide my menu bar and drag the window right up to the top of the screen and then, just barely, I can see the okay button. Result of this bad design, I don't use the program at all but opt for using Pisca2 from google for down loading the camera. At least you realize that there is a problem but designed for a specific circumstance but I honestly believe a lot of these program and web designers just don't have a clue. If this is the case, then I award them the triple splat! award....if you don't know, don't ask but don't look up.

P.S. This is an edit. Just clicked on your link and yes, the quality is a bit degrade but this is fine.....it is much more enjoyable looking at the page like this and no, I don't find it cramped at all. Everything is just resized to fit the screen. Now, you deserve a pint, as long as your willing to pay.......Thanks again

The internet is constantly moving forward. Whilst I would agree it's to early to abandon 800 x 600 users (20%), but their time is limited.

Think about it chronilogically, how many web site support 640 x 480 resolution screens? How many web sites need to be created using 'web safe' colours?

But I must warn you, web sites where I must scroll bore me very quickly and I usually leave them very early, and I am probably not alone.
I can understand your comments but equally you have to accept the demise of the 800 x 600 pixel resolution standard, or else ever increasing sites will "bore me very quickly".

Don't under estimate us guys. We may be dinosaur but rember how long they were in existance. I was explaing to Ankhor the other day that 2-3 years ago my old machine was a 100 hz, 32 meg ram, 1 gig hardrive that only got replaced only when it died and this was given to me by a friend a few months before he died. A 466 with 191 meg ram is pure heaven as far as I am concerned......life is good and I doubt if it can get much better.....except maybe for screen resolution. I've mentioned several times now on the forum that the great thing about an old machine is that you alway get to blame it when things go wrong thereby removing all the responsabilty from your own shoulders. Once you guys realize the bliss of this you probably all will want to throw out those new fangled machines of yours and get one of these......trouble is, they don't exist anymore.....everybody threw them in the garbage....remember. And this is a beautiful machine to look at. It's a beautiful, beautiful beige colour and I have a monitor sitting on my desk about the size of a pick-up that weights a ton. I alway say, heavy is quality. If you want me to buy a new computer, stick a brick or two in the tower so it feels heavy, then I know I have quality. Remember that when your looking to buy a new machine....don't ask silly questions about ram, size of hard drive or any other trivia, pick it up and see how much it weighs. So, this good advice should be worth the price of a guinness, eh?

No way, most of them got recycled and/or canabalist and are now in some third world country.(Atleast that is what happened here, I know
a guy who did the recycling so I got some nice things for my old
machine in those days when I wasn`t in the cash)

Not mine ofcourse, My A1200 is still purring next to me, atleast 15 years old.
Last year I even bought a scandoubler/flickerfixer for it, finally.

My Gateway P II 400Mhz still searches the net for me for MP3`s etc.

My Legend P IV 2.53Ghz is still making divx`es etc. and downloading
    larger files like TV series.

And my new machine makes me a plugin king.
Dualcore processor, nice flatscreen LCD screen 19 inch.
    Plenty of ram and stuff,.
That is why I can pump out a lot of graphics.

And together they make a nice network.
Giving me some extra harddisk space even, but now they are specialised machines for certain tasks.

Hmm some scamartists just put bricks in the packaging, you would
consider that top quality merchandise I guess
