    Default Glass in Xara Challenge

In the Ice Cube Challeng, Gary and others have been discussing the difficulties associated with drawing glass. True, it is not easy. However, sometmes the best technique is to NOT draw the glass but to "fool the eye" of the viewer.

In the image below, I drew the rim and walls of the glass, along with the light reflections, but the bowl of the glass is empty space.

What techniques do you use? Show me some examples.

I did this a few years ago taking the information from one of Gary Priester's book, adapting it for Xara. I kind of deviated from the instructions and messed with the glass colors a bit.

Not a challenge, but maybe asking for pointers.

I have a work in progress which is a Civil War Compass. The only glass I've come up with tends to blur what is underneath and make it less ledgible.

Any suggestions on the glass cover?

Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

Chuck - That's a really good rendering. And all the other drawings are quite well done as well.

Here are two of my favorites.

Here is some glass, but not a glass, produced some considerable time ago and a glass where I spent more time on the beer mat than the glass standing on it.

    Hi Chuck,
I think the tutorial that you got the glass idea from on your first illustration in this topic is one of the best guest tutorials ever shown in the Xone. I got a huge amount from it. Egg should have gained high praise for producing such a clearly described tut for that it was simply one of the best.
    Design is thinking made visual.

You are right Albacore. Kudo's are definitely in order for Egg.

You can find his excellent tutorial at:

    Love the glass work.
