Hetzel is the name of a production company. They are currently producing all kinds of television shows for children and adults. They want the word entertainment in the logo. This is a VERY ROUGH first draft that I am going to polish and pitch in the next two weeks.

While I was staring at the letters in the name I kept seeing a ship in the negative space
between the letters T and Z. So, I came up with what you see now in a few minutes.

I love the concept of a ship as it is a symbol of adventure and integrity,
which is true to who Mr. Hetzel is. It can also be used with all sorts of riding the wave type of slogans to boot.

Now, here is where it gets interesting...

I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if it had some kind of history behind it? It was a shot in the dark.
I ran a google search and Ahoy Matey! there just happened to be an old civil war ship called the HETZEL that was never sunk! (see attached pic) Can you believe it! That gives the logo more depth (no pun intended) I'll post the completed logo and results of the pitch the week after next.

Some really outstanding logos there, Campbell! I particularly like the "Hetzel" (first version), "I-Wash", "UFixIT" and "Poteet" logos. Kudos for generally avoiding gradients, drop shadows and unnecessary detail. And your point about negative space is very important - it can often be the key to a great logo design (think of the FedEx logo, to name my favourite example).

I don't recognise the font you used for the "fun" Hetzel logo - what's it called?

More and more logo designers are using XaraX - I reckon it's the best tool for the job.

Thank you Simon. I tend to strip the logo down to its bare neccesities. Yeah, the FedEx logo rocks! The font is called Mr .
Earl. I use alot of other programs for green screening and 3d animation but I run to Xara everytime for logos.

Aye, the negative space imagery rules the moment. I remember back in the 60s , er nevermind...

Really like your logos Campbell, especially the Hetzel. Excellent researching and presentation. Nice cleans lines so it can be presented in about any format.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

I do not have a handle on color schemes.
I always work in blue becuase I have no clue on what colors work well.
I wish we could have an ongoing logo thread where we can get critiques
on logos, colors etc. I am getting alot of buisness offers but I feel inadequate
as I can never pick a the right colors. The client usualy ends up changing what ever colors I pick becuase I suck.

    Campbell,
You most certainly DO NOT SUCK. I have the same lack of knowledge or understanding of the use of colors. Your logos posted here are very good, and I especially like the top one. Good work. Maybe in time we'll learn to understand the correct use of color from comments on this forum.
    Regards,
    ron
