Thank you, you may well be right, I left school 1936 aged 14 , worked with a fishmonger, butcher, ironmonger, ( as message boy) timber merchant, spoolboy in a cinema, brewery, upholsterer, radio repairer, collecting hides,skins,bones and tallow, from slaughter houses, cinema operator 1940.
Volunteerd for the army 18 years old . 1946 demobbed 24 years old, worked as an electrician then became a radio repair man and eventually television engineer.Got fed up with that and worked for a friend of mine in the camping equipment business, then the last 11 years of my working life I became a river warden inspecting outlets from factories, farms mines,etc so you can see where I got some of my skills but didn't take up woodworking seriously until 3 years or so ago.

In 1973 when I was on my big OE in Edinburgh (Scotland), I bought from a car accessory shop a horn for my car. This horn was one that apparently was used by farmers on their tractors, it was electric but cable operated using the exact devise you drew in the below animation.
Using a jubilee (Hose clip) slid through the slot in base of the mount and then fastened around the steering column of the tractor you activated the horn by pushing the lever forward which resulted in different volumes of a sound very similar to a cow mooing!
Don't know if this was the real intension of the horn but must say that I had a real ball using it in my old car at the beach as a young fella
