Convert to Object not active

I use PhotoImpact 8.0 an cant figure this out.
My active selection disappeared after converting to an object.
I used the Lasso tool to cut out a section of an image, then converted to an object as I always do. The selection did not become active. Usually the selection will have an active border around it so I can erase pieces of it. I can move the selection with my mouse but thats it.
Im thinking its a small issue in my tools or setup. I dont recall changing any of my settings unless it was done by accident.

Click View/Show marquee. The eye icon beside it should be open. Or press Ctrl+F8.

I believe CTRL-F8 toggles the marquis, so you might have done it by accident...
