Default Grid strange behaviour with Extreme

I have both Xara X1 and Xara Extreme installed
If i click on the grid on X1 the grid appears as expected, however on Extreme the grid fills the grey area that surrounds the canvas and disappears underneath it.
Does any one else has the same issue?
    Thanks.

It only seems to work when you set the background to transparent. (just white isn't enough)

    Know1 Thanks mate!
I played around a bit more after posting and found out that it was possible to make the Background layer transparent via the Layers gallery by clicking on the "eye".
Then the grid appears correctly over the canvas.

    hi Doobs and Know1,

the background and the canvas are two different things. The background is a layer whereas the canvas just represents your page size.
