combine and slicing

Hi

I've created two circles and overlaid an "S".

I trying to re create the graphic with left and right hand circles separated by the s shape with the semi circles different colours.

I thought to do it using combine and slice but can't get it to work.

Can someone take a look and tell me if I should be using another method

I've attached the xar which has my humble attempt and a copy of the required end effect

This is the correct method.

Except here is how I would do it.

Position the text S over the ellipse. Select both and Arrange > Combine Shapes... Subtract Shapes.

Then, Arrange > Break Shapes. Now you have two separate shapes and you can color each as desired.
