Ungrouping removes Live effects?

I think I must be missing something here, but...

...am I correct in thinking that although you can apply a plugin such as EyeCandy4000 Demo>Chrome to a grouped object, once you ungroup the object, the Live Effect is discarded?

Yes, that's correct. However, you can still edit individual objects in the group (CTRL+select). You can reposition them, change colours, add outlines etc. etc. and the LiveEffect will be retained.
