    Ballpoint,
    The spider I photographed and Mike drew was a common garden spider ... also known as "Argiope aurantia". The spider Rich photographed may also be a type of "argiope".

    Anton,
    I hope that is a super closeup shot of a jumping spider. Otherwise, you have a BIG problem

    It was quite a decent-sized spider. It was taken with flash (looking at the depth of illumination of that one eye, the spider must have been thinking the two-neuron equivalent of "wtf was that??"), and my wee digital compact can't do flash in macro mode, and anyway I didn't want to get that close in case it could jump...

    It's actually looks quite cuddly, don't you think?

    Britney Spears...cute and cuddly . A huge spider with a fang sticking out...NOT cute and cuddly . Great photos Antonm but methinks you should get out more .
