I am having difficulties unlocking my purchased trial version of X1. Technical support has been no help what-so-ever and I am getting a little frustrated. Does anyone have any ideas of what I need to do here? When are the CD's do to arrive?

How are you trying to unlock the program TekArt??

Is it the Splash Screen with the option to unlock the product??

You can always unlock it through the registry if all else fails. I take it you purchased your upgrade or full product and then recieved an unlock code on a seperate page??

Yes, I am following the splash screen unlock option using the info I received after the purchased of X1. It seems that Xara's system is not recognizing me when I attempt to unlock the product. Product support had reset my password for me, but that does not help. They have talked about port 80, blah blah blah but I have no idea what they are talking about. I have not heard from them since last Wednesday. And to make matters worse, my trial period will run out in two days. I seem to recall having this problem on my old system with the original version so it must be me. So what is this registry option you are talking about?

I'm sorry you are experiencing this TekArt. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

The registry entries are fairly simple. If all else fails make sure you have the original entries memorized or copied down in a text file before beginning.

In case you don't know how to invoke the registry:

Start/Run/type in regedit then hit the OK button.

    Then go to:
    <span class="ev_code_BLUE">HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareXara XaraX1OptionsUserInfo</span>

    You will see:
    (Default) ignore this one....
Company: Double click on this and type in your companies name.
Licensee: Double click on this and type in your name exactly as it appeared in your online purchase page.
SerialNo: Double click on this and type in the Key Code that they supplied you with.

As an example the key code is laid out like this: XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

You can also copy paste the licence Key Code in. Close out of the Registry and start up Xara X1 and hopefully you will be registered. My copy didn't even supply me with a splash screen with the option to buy or unlock so when I purchased my boxed upgrade I took a screen shot of my page that supplied me with the key code and just copied the info into a text file to keep handy. So I just copy/pasted the info in and I was all set to go after that. Seems there are some registration bugs there that didn't get ironed out! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif If for some reason this does not work then just type in the old info and you should be back where you started.

    Let me know what happens.

    Hi TekArt and Richard,

Let me know if I'm pointing out the obvious. Were you dialed into your ISP when you tried to register XaraX1?

Being one of the seemingly rare dialup people left, I had no problems registering when I was dialed into my ISP.

    RAMWolff,

What you describe is a follow on from being a beta-tester who had unlocked the product as part of beta testing. Your fiddling with the registry in the way you describe would have no impact on your running the download version of Xara X¹.

As far as we are aware, there are no "registration bugs there that didn't get ironed out".

And whilst I have the floor, it would make more sense for a user to enter his own Company name rather than "Xara Group Ltd.", wouldn't it??

When you receive your CD (whether it has come in a box or just a jewel case), the installer prompts for Name and Company, and then when you run X¹ you will be prompted to enter your Serial Number.

    ------------------

    TekArt,

When you click in the StartUp splash screen to unlock the product, you need to enter the email address and password that you used to purchase the product (i.e. the ones that you can use to sign in to www.xaraonline.com). As Soquili mentioned, you will need to be online to do this. Do you get any error message displayed?

    hth,

    Hi Alex,

Still makes no sense to me though. I completely killed all instances of Xara X1 on my hard drive (except for the movies) including going through the registry and still could not get the nag screen to come up. So maybe you guys had a 'special file' loaded up somewhere that I could not think of to look (or was having a brain dead moment! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif ) and still could not get the splash nag screen to come up when installing the May 12th installation. I know I'm fine but I was just seeing if I could get it to come up and couldn't.

Sorry about the company name thing, just assumed it was supposed to say Xara Group Ltd..... Oh well, my goof! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif By the way, why is it that the Serial Number is not shown when I click on the Help/About area. It's not showing for some reason. I think that's kinda weird why that's masked and shows as a blank area. I don't think I like that. Is there a reason??

TekArt has not been back here, maybe he got it all squared away??

You have not installed the product from the CD, and have not been prompted to enter your serial number. It's not just a matter of editing the registry like you did...
