Line Art

[Grafixman]

Following my Japanese Print topic, I was curious if I could start a collection of artworks based primarily on lines. No colors, or minimal shading. Concentrating only on using lines to draw something. I guess I'm looking for a style to build upon. I love graphics works and I try to emulate various styles, but being a jack of all trades sometimes results in mastering none... all too true. I'm not a pro, and I probably would drop this style sooner or later, but it would be nice to have a signature style....
I'm ranting. Just had to get that out. Too bad the forum ran out of disk space. Had to upload it to an image hosting site.

looks great Gman. simple yet gets the picture in your head. should come up with something semi complex and post it and make a challege and the coloring and maybe a scene a tagline for it. just a thought. ok i will keep my dumb thoughts to my self. Nice idea of using a texture image to color the lineart. I don't mind people playing with it at all. One of the main reasons I post things here is to have feedbacks on ideas.

Nice blend mesh on the hair Grafixman, do oyu plan on making it more dense?

Maybe.
They're just doodles, trying to find a style that works for me. So far, I'm not really satisfied with the way they turned out. Too mechanical. I guess I'm trying to find a looser, more spontaneous style. I really envy those comic book artists... Their lines are loose, flowing and powerful. Can't seem to get that with computer generated artworks. Maybe I should try practicing more with pen and ink?

I wish i could produce something that good! try using the freehand pen tool if you are doing thes in Xara and push the slider all the way to the left. then slowly bring it back to the right when you like the flow of the line also change the line style. just my 2 cents worth http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Your lines are too thick and uniformed. Did you see the ribbon picture I did in this months stop & post? That was just different thin lines placed and blended, then joined into shapes for the highlights and shadows. The ribbon looks like it uses fades, but is actually just 3 shapes. the background ribbon color, the highlights and the shadows...
