    Poll Question:
Without being lengthy or showing too much of my ignorance on the subject, what's the general opinion of After Effects as far as speed, ease of use, capabilities, etc.
I need to find a way to quickly (key word, quickly) show movement in isometric equipment drawings. Drawings are currently being generated in Illustrator. Is this possible/realistic or am I barking up the wrong tree?

hmmm...well, what do you mean by movement? if you mean something which would look kinda like 3d, then you're probably better off using something like 3ds or maya or something...but if it's something that can be achieved with 2d animation then it should be fine.

why don't you try and do it in flash, if you've already got vector shapes? That way you can keep your vectors intact, but still have powerful animation tools at your disposal. if you need to bring it into after effects from there, you could easily export as avi or mov, or if you really need high quality, export as a bmp sequence and bring it into after effects. that's a method commonly used by animators before going to assembly (where they'll add audio, etc.), and allows you to use flash as your animation tool.
