Raining outside so I played most of the day with Blender...
Started to do a pivoting support from a technical book I have. Adding parts here and there, and taking the hands from the MakeHuman Python script for Blender (read about MakeHuman Project and download the MH script for Blender). Stopping now for tea and sleep.

Looks like a good start for a Droid, Dan. Are you going to add some means of articulation for the upper arms to move forward? Looking at what you have they can only move out to the sides. That Python script does a good human hand.

Yeah I'll think I'll modify the uppers arms for better movement. Since all the parts are different objects, it is "easier" to modify them.
At the end I plan to put an armature to facilitate animation. Learning as I go..

As for the hands, MakeHuman does a complete body thant you can "ajust". The anatomical accuracy is phenomenal !

Nice Dan. I bought a blender book some time ago but then took it back to the store the next night, it was pretty tough.

    Hey Teknal,
I agree, Blender is not easy to master. Even with the UI cleaned up, there's so many features, so many settings possible... I've been using it for a while (about a year - few hours here and there)and still have lot to learn.
Wich book di you bought ? Was it the 2.3 Guide ? That's the most recent. There's also The Blender Book wich covers the Blender 1.8 version. The Blender Gamekit book is also available.
For starters, I would suggest the 2.3 Guide. There's a online version at Elysiun(sales of the book helps the Blender Foundation)that is suppose ton be kept to date with all of the changes. Version 2.34 is comming out pretty soon (within a week I think - lots of new features).

Here's a new version (complete "overhaul") of the right arm of the robot.
Had to do most of the parts again...
There's about 40 different objects for that arm... The armature riging will be fun to do
I decided to do a mechanical hand instead of using the MakeHuman script..
