The feathering feature, among others, is shut off (in the button pallette). I can't find it otherwise. Is there a reason for this in the trial version?

Do you have anything selected?
Many of the features on the Infobar (the area at the top of the screen) are "context-sensitive" and are only activated when an object or objects is/are selected.

It's nothing to do with it being a trial version, as I have run both trial versions and had no problem.
Try Gary's tip above, if that's not the problem then I'm stuck... :-)
