Mark - I wasn't suggesting a backyard. Your bedroom suggestions seem highly appropriate to me.

I like the idea of a retro-style toy robot. My sketches relate to the idea that the robot must look like it is capable of actually moving the scrabble piece somehow.

Jens - the forest sounds like a great time. Have fun! Here's an idea for you: When away, collect the 'colours' of the place. Do so by collecting little amounts of some leaves, soil, pebbles, grass, bark etc. When you return home create a colour pallet of the colours of your trip. It will help you to remember the trip when you are senile. No doubt you'll then sometime find them useful before that in a project and that project will have greater significance for you. As well you could share the colours with all your friends here at the forums.

Regards, Ross

OK! Here come's another sketch.

The scene is the box were all the toys are stuffed, and the brilliant robots have come up with an escape plan.

This sketch is quite simplified - In real life(?) there should of course be a lot more toys (more like the background of Ross').

In the sketch I used blocks with letters, but it could as well be Scrabble pieces.

Paul--

You are a very gifted sketch artist. I really like the Tin toy in the background

Still, I think we're honing in on a stage.

I think:

1.)We limit it to one robot.
2.)The robot should be more of the cereal prize type than a Star Wars droid type (Ross, VERY nice design, though. Isn't that ILM ringing on your phone in the background?
3.)I think "Play with me FIRST" would be funny if you have other toys in the background begging to be played with but lacking Scrabble skills.

Sharon, your thoughts? This has mutated a lot from the original approach.

I'm sorry for butting in as I promised not to, but let's pretend we're getting paid for this, and we have individual assignments and a schedule.

That's part of the fun and the stress of Real world modeling.

Paul,

your illustration is absolutely fantastic and a brilliant idea!

Mark,

sorry, so the files already include character animation elements, but I think you can remove them.

And now have fun!

Sharon--

Even though it looks like I am, I don't want to enforce rules or run the studio. I need an organizational talent just like yours to push this thing. Time's a ticking, you know, and when that happens, people lose enthusiasm, and that would be a shame with so many users with multi-talents.

I cannot believe how many of you are accomplished sketch artists.

How many use XARA? Me, too.

Here's a web page with some nice pics of retro-style toy robots. Note 'Rover - the space dog' I like him best. He has so much more personality than the robots.

Please keeep the momentum going here, and make definitive choices for what we do on this project.

It's getting far too diffuse here, I p[romise to back you up on your choices, and I PROMISE to stay out of it until my turn comes to retouch the composite image.

Well why not start by looking at where we're at?

We have 10 people:

Paul
Gary
Randy
Mark
Steve
Ross
Stu
Earl
jens
me (good Lord, am I the only female??)

We have 6 sketches:

A) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=9761907192

B) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=8781927192

C) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=1061929192

D) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=4121940592

E) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=3121926592

F) http://talkgraphics.infopop.net/1/Op...&ul=5051991692

Even with all the talk about changes to sketch B, sketch A was still tied for first place in the original vote.

I suggest that we vote again on wed. and thurs. I think two days is better than one because people have jobs and real lives and may not log on every day.

I think Wed. is a good day to start because that gives everyone a couple days to get in any last minute sketches or refinements to their sketches.

On wed. we can start a poll for voting and that will eliminate any exteraneous chat.

How does that sound?
