Scanner settings for matte finish photos

Hi Jim and welcome to the group!
I use an HP Scanjet 5470 when I scan my photos and it never crossed my mind about there being a difference between glossy or matte photos. I have never noticed any problems. But then, I usually scan at no less than 300 dpi...and quite often 600 dpi....because I am usually going to enlarge and print them out.
Maybe someone else in the group will have some idea about this?
