    Ron,

One voice, no matter how loud it is - doesn't speak for everyone. This is a place of sharing and learning - it's not an artsy fartsy art gallery. I for one find enjoyment (I'm sure most people do) in all kinds of pieces posted in the gallery - for many different reasons. You not posting your pieces in the gallery - is a crime! If I let negativity rule my world - I wouldn't draw a thing.

You do - and you learn. You share - and other people learn. One can't be everything to everyone - trying is a waste of time.

    Hi guys,

sorry it looks like I opened another can o worms. For me, the ultimate in technical skill is a photorealistic piece. The ultimate in in artistic expression is an impressionistic piece. 90% of my commercial work is done at the same techincal skill level. I thrive on learning, thus I love a good technical challenge. That is why I think Sarah X is just so fantastic. I put 80 hours into the drawing of my lady and learned volumes about color and hightlights and shading etc.

for me, an exprssionist piece is a doodle. Crank it out, at the spur of the moment... Like my jokes... The mood strikes and I whip it up...

If I had a program/puter that would let me draw from the atomic level on up I would probably do just that. I am a detail person. Impressionist pieces are great... The feeling and the emotion are fantastic. I am just not comfortable doing them. It is not my style.

I just brought up the point to James that a photorealistic piece is the top of the line. Totally unprofitable commercially. Only the artrist or someone who has attempted it can truly appreciate it. Nothing is harder or more time consuming to do.

Unless of course you can draw a circle with the freehand brush with just 4 nodes and the slider all the way to the left... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

John, at least your man enough to admit that you opened the wrong can... To be admired.

Risto, right on dude! Your communication skills are dead on. Wish I could write like that clearly.

In the end, to each their own. Good points for both sides were made here. However controversial, it was educational. Thank you all!

LogoVend, your portrait has a solid graphic feel to it. Post more if you can, looking forward to seeing them. Also, if you do a quick search in the Xara Gallery for some of William Clegg's work, you might enjoy his style & or technique.

    Hi Waldo,

When you babble as much as I do, one has to admit when he is wrong. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

    I like this quote:

"BTW this is not my girlfriend - this is just a friend. And it's a work in progress."

And if you check with your accountant you will find out that $800 X 8 is = $6400 (not $48000). Eek Hopefully, you haven't a down payment on a Porche yet... Big Grin Wink

No I don't earn 6400$ yet, but I will soon enough!
When you believe in something (and try doing something for it not just dream) you will eventually get there. I've managed to open my own business in less than a year. If you read my profile (which I need to have changed) - I just
got out of from Navy one year ago, so I think it's a big accomplishment http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

P.S. Speaking of business... I need to check on Fairy Prices, imported from outside... US or Europe. Anyone knows a dealer?

    @ DMagician

Ah, finally someone gets my humour. And for my next trick, I'll be doing my girlfriend. (Sorry, been watching too many 'Carry On' films).

    Hi James,

Very nice piece there. Artistic but does have a bit of a photo quality to it while maintaining a nice artistic flare to the piece. You are quite talented.

As for the debates here, I don't do debates at TG any more. My posts tend to get quite long in the tooth as many of the old timers here know.

So all I will say is that we are all entitled to our opinions and to sum it up..... "Each to their own" http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
