First you need to name the movie clip with an instance name, say "movie1"

Then you need to target the movie clip with a command from your button. So for rollover you'd sent the play command to the "movie1" movie clip and for rollout you'd send the stop stop command to the "movie1" movie clip. The real trick is dependant on where the "movie1" movie is relative to the button. If the button and the movie clip are just on the main timeline, then it's a piece of cake. If the button is within the movie clip then you'd have something like "_root.movie1.play" or whatever the line is.

    Hope that helps,

    Go into the button symbol:
    1. create a new layer in the down state
    2. paste your movie clip on the stage on that layer
    3. you might need to go back and move the movie clip around to get it to show in the right place,

and you are good to go.
    hope this works for you

...but may need a bit of tweaking if what you're looking for is a stop/play sort of thing. his suggestion will get the movie clip to appear on the down state of the button. if you want it still sitting there on the up and over states, you'll have to put a static version in both of those states, as well. if you want to get even more interesting, then as the clip is playing in the down state, you could get it to set a variable as to which frame it's on, so that the up and over states could read the variable and update their positions. then it would look like the clip is actually playing and pausing based on when you push the button. however, if you go to these lengths, it might just be easier to use scott's suggestion.
