Hi guys,

Looking for some inspiration here. I'm working on a portrait (from a photograph) and am having all sorts of frustrations with getting the hair right. Has anybody got any xar examples of hair, I mean realistic hair? I've seen some of the brushes you guys have created but they're just too symetrical which is exactly what hair on a human head isn't (unless your subject is a skinhead )

Looking for a quick and easy way of course, which is a bit of a cop out, 'cos if it was quick and easy, everybody'd be doing it!

I've no idea how he does it but Vladimir Konstantinovich work is an inspiration for this type of work. There's examples in the Xara site.

Yes, I know, his stuff is damn good. puts my efforts to shame. Problem is his examples are just images. i'd like to see how it was created.

Come on guys, somebody must have had some success doing photo-realistic hair!

... sorry, I flashed back a few decades.

Big Frank, the .xar file for "Mina Moiseev" is in the Xara2 subdirectory under Clipart on the XaraX CD. It doesn't look "quick and easy", but it does look photo-realistic

if this is the sort of thing your looking for I created these using fractal plasma transparency, converting to bitmap, squashing, creating bitmap copy then using Ivans warped bitmap technique.

I suppose you have noted warped bitmaps are much better managed with the patch!

That looks so much like hair it is creepy to see it detached from a head!

Well, I've managed musk rat or some such beasty from the icy wastes of Canada, but human hair has beaten me. Please, Christine, could you post a file with your hair brush(!). Thanks.
