Certain Fonts Distort NavBar Appearance

I am attempting to use the arquette_hnavbar template with its default font (HarvestItal Regular)and the "backing" becomes distorted when the font size is adjusted. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix? I have tried other fonts and most do the same thing. Take a look at the following link to see an example:
