Glad to hear those who enjoyed the image
    Thanks

The nice thing with Xara and vector programs in general, is that it's so easy to change the layout of a drawing.

I like how this one looks.

    Bob

Did you do the cartoons for your high school yearbook?

    (I thought so :-)

How many other high school cartoonists do we have in this forum?

    (My hand is raised).

No, I didn't. Of course I drew cartoons in high school, but nothing that appeared in a yearbook. Too quiet I guess.

I did though get my picture one year in a "Art in Action" montage. A photo of me drawing.

But I have been drawing even before high school. Anyone still have all their old report cards?

Here's a part of a teacher's comments from one of mine:
"Bobby seems to have developed an artistic flair this term, producing several excellent pieces of art work."

I was 8 years old then. Don't remember what I did, but I've always liked drawing. Plus it was an easy way of getting attention without having to say anything

I don't want it to sound like I'm bragging, but only to say that the way I can draw now is only from practice. I couldn't always draw like this.

For those who like to draw cartoons too, keep it up! Who knows what you'll be able to do in the future. (I'm 33 now)

    Very nice indeed.
Just wondering, did you do all the work in xara x?
I'm new to using xara and was thinking of trying cartoon but I'm not sure draw with a mouse would work. Do you have one of those pen things on your PC?

    Thanks
    Mark.

    Hi Mark.

It's actually pencil, paper, scanner, then Xara.

I attached a file showing my original sketches. The one on the left is the first sketch, the one on the right is a trace of the first sketch, just to clean the image up.

I scan my pencil sketch and use it in Xara as a guide. I trace the image by creating the necessary shapes in Xara. I do all that with a mouse.

I use the layer gallery in Xara. I put my jpeg scan in one layer. Add a transparency to the scan so you can see through it but still see the sketch. And make it so you can't select it, so you don't accidently move it out of place. In a new layer under the scan is where I create the Xara graphics.

I hope that makes some sence.

All my drawings in Xara will start from a hand drawn sketch on paper.

I do have a Wacom pen tablet, but don't use it with Xara. Only with paint programs do I use the tablet.

    -Bob.
