Years ago when I started doing step-by-step tutorials and articles, I found it was easier to recreate the buttons, and many of the menus and dialog boxes as vector objects. I have about three pages of Xara objects that I recycle all the time.

These can be modified, rescaled as needed.

I use screen captures too, when I'm feeling lazy :-)

The bevel tool can also be a very quick way of producing custom made "bullet" point.

My sphere tool must be broken. I followed Gary's instructions to the letter. I don't know what it is, but mine just don't seem to look right.
Maybe it's the water here.

Those bullets are superb, and of course they don't need to be flat in colour and they can have textures.
