    Try these solutions:

Create a rectangle behind your button in the same colour of your webpage's background ...

    or

In the colourgallery, select a backgroundcolour exactly like your webpage's background

and then export that button. You'll be surprised with the results you're looking for!

as well as the same colour background, ensure your setting the background to transparent with the little wine glass icon in the export dialogue box. (assuming your exporting as a .gif) you should then have no background colour showing thru and no white "jaggies" around the edges.

Teachers are clueless Alex. This is where you will find the good answers.

Another method for creating a transparent background for your button is this:

Drag a color (that is the same, or close to the background color or texture of your page) from the screen palette onto the screen (hold down the Ctrl key when you drag and drop the color).

Now you don't need any rectangle or other shape behind your button--unless you want to add space around your button. Export with the transparent background option and Xara, bless it's heart, will anti-alias your button to the color of the background.
