Hi. I have a question regarding scanning images into PS. Whenever I scan in images and try to print them out they never are the same size as the originals. I assume it is because of the resolution, but I am confused on how to use it. Does it matter the resolution of the original image? Does setting the resolution alter the size of the image or just the quality? I am soooo confused. Any info will be greatly appreciated

Resolution does matter for quality, but not size as it pertains to printing... only for viewing the image on your monitor.

General rules would state that most photos scanned can/should be done so using 150dpi. Then then output resolution in PS set to 300 for print.

Right-click your document's titlebar and choose "Image Size". Or choose it from the Edit menu.

There is where you'd change the resolution to 300. But take notice that while the pixel size of your image grows... the print size does not.

Also bear in mind that most often, you'll need to be using a very good quality photo AND scan to get the absolute best results. But using Photoshop to enhance/correct things can be helpful too -- i.e. you won't usually want to run straight from the scanner to print.

Here are a few threads on my Forum that concern resolution. Maybe one of them can help some more:

What is your scanner software set to when you import?
Make sure that it is scanning at 100% and set to the desired dpi.

If done correctly, when you look at image>image size you should see the same values that you specified within the import software that you use with your particular scanner.

Thanks for your replys. Is the output resolution the resolution you set when you open a new file?
