Greetings to all! I'm new to this forum and stumbled on to it in a search of the net. I have access to two different Graphics Packages Corel and Adobe. I'm at this time trying to find a way to take particular images out of a picture and make the background transparent to use on webpage projects. I'm new to this but think I can do this with help from good people. If you can tell me how to do this with either Photopaint, Xara, or Adobe Photoshop 7.0 please let me know.

Hey Fattyarbuckle, welcome! I know that name from a TV show, don't i? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

In PS7 just use the Pen/Path tools, or Selection tools (polygon lasso works best) to create a specific selection around your subject(s), then, for the Pen/Path tools, right-click the canvas and choose "Make Selection". On the photo/image layer in question, press Ctrl+J.

Hide the original subject layer and use "Save for Web..." to create a high quality (24bit) transparent PNG version of the extracted subject, which you can then import into any specific Web page design.

NOTE: there are many ways to create selections for an extraction purpose. Other methods include using the Quick Mask mode, using Channels, or using the "Extract" filter under the Filter menu. All of these other methods involve 'painting' to create the selection bounds, and might be considered an easier method than learning to use the Pen/Path tools effectively. And all can be applied equally well, given the user know what to do.

In XaraX, do the same as above with its Pen tool. Then select both the subject image and the path outline and right-click the canvas to select "Combine Shapes > Intersect Shapes".
Then select the extracted subject image and Export to a transparent PNG format as mentioned above for PS.

    That help any? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
