Big Frank - I liked your example! It shows what marquetry is and helps illustrate why it is such a difficult technique. Fortunately the art of creating patterns with veneers is much simplier in Xara. (Simple enough for yours truly to try).

Ah, Ross, I see your marquetry was delivered already assembled. I guess I use a cheaper supplier than you do. Mine came flat-packed with some very obtuse instructions. Hence my semi-completed assembly!

Big Frank - Don't mind Gary, he seems to have expected a near-photorealistic VW all rendered in exotic veneers. Perhaps some day you can make a real one for use as a tabletop in your camper!

I did a little surfing to see what I could find out about marquetry. Here's a interesting site. Be sure to see the gallery. I see some projects take a year of work. I think I'll stick with Xara. (If I started a one year project I'd get bored after about a week).

It seems we both use the same chipboard supplier! Also, your choice of wood for the small inlays is most curious, especially as the grain of the wood remains straight even though the edge of the inlay (which has obviously gotten damp - didn't you learn anything at school?? [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] ) has curled up. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]

It's not so much the wood but trying to hammer in those tiny finishing nails with my mouse.
