making color swatches

I just loaded photoshop and need to know how to make color swatches. The program I am using will only accept Photoshop Palette Files .act.

Your help is appreciated.

I use Image Mode Index Color Once you have an indexed color, select color table. The color table can be saved in two formats. The pal format can be read by XPal, and than saved to a Jasc PAL, or an EPS file. The other format is ACT. Rich
