in 3D can I have a button that isn't 100% opaque so backround colours affect it?

Probably a daft question. But I want to create a 3d button with text. But I want the button to be semi-transparent so that I can manipulate the colour of the button via a background of the same shape. Baically I wanted a rollover button without using flash or javascript, but just CSS to control the style. Is this possible in Xara3D, or in any other programme that any of you can think of?

I have had a play with XaraX1 exporting png, with Alpha... but without any luck. Perhaps someone else can do it!
