    Greetings!

A good friend (and client) took me to a complex of houses nestled atop a butte here in Northern Arizona.

I took along my new Oly C-4000 Zoom digicam and snapped these test shots for a possible sales brochure.
The houses are all rustic exteriors with modern comforts. The four houses sit on 16 acres.

Note the outdoor privy in the top middle - still functional.

The house in the lower left is made with rammed earth construction. The walls are 24 inches thick. The doors are hand carved from native mesquite wood. Artists come from all over to rent this home and paint in this area.

The interior is always comfortable according to my friend.
Just thought you might enjoy seeing some "other" desert scenes - of late.

BTW, I just bought an Oly C-4000 myself. Its my first digital camera, and I love it! Very good camera for the price - 4 mp resolution for about $420, with good manual controls.

And I proably paid twice as much as you guys.

    Still I'm a happy camper.

A useful feature is Bracketing which is a technique used by professional photographers to shoot one picture at a range of exposures. This gives you a range of choices from too dark to to light and several in the middle.

The attached photo of Sandia Mountain was taken near sunset then enhanced with a transparent rectangle with a violet to orange Linear fill.

The fun of the camera for me is providing raw material to enhance in Xara.

And I ain't even from there! I did spend a good portion of my youth (ages 7-11 and part of 13) in the Southwest (Phoenix, El Paso, Tucson) as well as a 6 month USAF stint in Las Vegas at age 24!

As a native of Florida, it is my first choice, but the desert Southwest is a very close second! I remember many hours roaming around gathering rocks for my tumbler, vacations as a child to Gila Bend, Elephant Butte, White Sands, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, etc.

Gary, your photo is beautiful. Unless you have witnessed first hand the beauty of a desert sunset, or a sunrise from atop a mesa, you can't fully appreciate the glory of God's handiwork in that region. But your picture helps!

    Thanks for sharing!

The attached shows how I create colored filters to enhance the mood of the photograph.

On the far left is the two color Linear fill, in the center is the Linear fill with transparency applied.

This is very similar to the practice of placing colored gradated color filters over the camera lens when taking a photograph, a trick a I learned from automobile photographers.
