Huge file spooling to printer - why?

I've just set up a new printer (Minolta Magicolor 2200, with 96 Mb ram).
Everytime I try to print a reasonable sized coreldraw file (8.5x11, about 10Mb total file size), I see the print monitor finish spooling a huge print job (size varies, up to 127Mb). The printer then starts printing (gets 68Kb into it), then dies.
Is there anything I'm missing? Any settings I can adjust to reduce the spooled file size?
I've tried the rasterize option and gotten it down to 80Mb - still doesn't output.
Other software prints fine.

Try reducing the printer resolution, the size of the print job is proportional to the dpi setting.
