Gary,

---
I'm wondering if the April tutorial (I'm going to start it today--no sense in getting it done to quickly) should be the gel capsule with the debossed lettering or the gel text?
---

I find the gel-button on page three of the former thread (the one with the big "X" beside it) absolutely stunning and I'd like to see a tut for this one.

If my vote counted, I'd vote for the gel capsule, or variations thereon.

Cheers,
Phil

you all know the saying about the specialist, but did you ever turn it around (image>invert)?

Someone who does not specialize knows less and less about more and more, until, in the end, he knows nothing about everything.

This is going to be a great tutorial. Wish I had more time to play like you guys.

Hi guys,

Just to stir something else into the mix...

...We've been tidying up in the lab today (for the first time in about five years!) and I've just found a piece of coloured perspex sheet (about 5mm thick and 100mm across). The edges do indeed appear darker coloured than looking 'through' the piece of material.

I could probably explain/bulls**t as to why this should be the case, but why bother- observation points to the edges being a stronger shade of the same colour, which is all we need to know for the purpose of a xartist doing a pretty pic.

Cheers,
Phil

P.S. I'll never be artistic enough to be a Xartist- but please can I be a Xientist?

Ross, I’m absolutely stunned by the:

1. Gel art shown here over the past few days.
2. The rapid response and quality of the art.
3. The “compulsion” of the other people here to draw, submit examples and help!

My wife thinks I’m slightly tilted, OK crazy :-) over my zeal for art, especially Xara but
now I see I’m not alone.

Gary, I’m very pleased you where able to finish your review, thanks for interrupting it and IMHO any tutorial on the gel capsule would be great!

Big Frank, your comments about not getting any work done were fun and very timely, not to mention your wonderful art!

Gary... I would much prefer it if you based the tutorial on the text with the gel effect, as he pill has already been dissected quite a lot in the other message. I still haven't got any idea how to make the text like the example you showed.

Frank... the pill and the drops of water look really cool! Especially the 'window' reflection!

BTW: can anyone replicate but improve the 'Tabs' shown on the Apple homepage? To make them more Gel-like and transparent, I mean

Thanks a lot guys!

I'm not sure if this achieves the feeling of plastic or not. Probably not, but with the pace of posting, I felt I had to account for myself somehow.

My first response is that it's a lovely image. In answer to your question I can almost feel the hard plastic texture in the top half, but where the colors get very light, I have no sense of solidity at all. It's as if the plastic has dissolved into light. (And now, Phil the Physicist will explain how that works...<g>)
