I think in this case it is the ring emitting the light, and that is the lightsource.

I think I see what you're saying volv, but Michael is right, the ring is emitting the light, which, in itself is a brighter light than the one coming from above, thus the rays coming from the ring and not from above.
Now, the refleciton of the light coming from above (The reflecion in the ring) glares a little because the light source (The one you can see in the ring) is obviously brighter than the light it it sends into the atmosphere, but it is still not as bright as the light coming out of the ring, thus the smaller glare/rays coming from it.

I hope this makes sense and that you can understand it! If you find any flaws in what I'm saying or are confused, bring it up and I'll do my best to correct it/explain it. Thanks for the advise, I hope I cleared it up a littl

Yes it makes sense, what you say
I understand it,
but this light looks forme still
not as a self emited light
rays are ok
maybe you should made this light darker
and rays lighter
maybe...

Nice - is there a shortcut to do the illumination spikes coming out of the letters, or did you do them all individually?

Your comments are always golden! I guess you missed the first design, it's here I'm glad you like it! They're both very slow renderers (In Xara that is, lot's of 'stuff')

Steve,

If you've been following my recent posts you'll know I doing a logo for a Wedding Consultant. They have pick a logo now, but one they rejected was based on their company name on a ring.

My design was based on yours, but nowhere near a good. I will be woring on improving on it myself, but would like to know if you have any tips or maybe a tutorial on your ring design? For the cool shading an lighting did you scan in a ring and manually trace it?
