I am behind a proxy/firewall at work. I have downloaded and run the Diagnostics program listed in the FAQ, and it says "Diagnostic completed - OK" -- I have also run the "SOAP3andXML4b.msi" file to "repair" the SOAP and XML in Webstyle....and the issue remains the same. I have tried using the Microsoft Firewall Client to see if that helps (as it does for other applications I have used), and still the problem persists. No matter whether I am running a new install from the CD, or I download the Trial version and run the install from there, the problem persists.

I am attempting to attach a screenshot of the error as it doesn't seem to be the same type I've seen posted by others or in the support FAQs.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...

And although the thread here: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=6149 is about Windows 2000 Pro connectivity issues, the support page for Webstyle has the same troubleshooting steps for all OS versions and yes, I have done as suggested...and yes, I have submitted a ticket to Xara Support but as of yet, I have gotten the same reply as I have gotten here. Not a darned thing.

I can connect other programs through the proxy...with the Windows Firewall Client software (i.e. WinAmp, ICQ, Trillian, etc.) which use non-standard ports...however, there's got to be a way to get Webstyle to work.

Is there an ini or config file I can edit for the HTTP proxy port? (Our work doesn't use port 80 for HTTP)

...however the connection diagnostics file connects with no problem....so what's the deal with Webstyle?!?!

I'm getting a similar message only my message reports "Bad URL" but the title is the same "Xara Server Connection Problem.

I'm using a laptop. Connected to the internet here in my office I get the error message. However, using my laptop at a client's office and it works fine.

Uninstall and re-install WebStyle 4 corrected nothing.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I haven't gotten anyone at Xara via support or here to help me with this issue...

They aren't exactly on top of things for those who buy their program, but I sure get ads to come buy the latest template pack! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

This issue is still outstanding....as stated, all I need to know is what to change/configure to point the HTTP port to something other than 80....their connectivity program connects fine, but WebStyle won't.....

Same issue here.......I have had to un-install and re-install webstyle 4 several times due to instability issues several times and the re-install usually fixes it. This time I am getting this same "server" error.
Xara support is so SLOW it is almost useless trying to contact them... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
They take days to respond it they do at all.
Is this forum affiliated with Xara at all http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

This is an issue that seems to be peculiar to Webstyle as I have not personally experienced this problem with other Xara products.

Although the "solution" provided by Xara sounds quite logical it unfortunately does not seem to resolve the issue.

I have found that if you do the following you will be able to update first time 90% of the time.

    1. Choose a "quiet" time, when both the USA and Europe are asleep, which means before 07:00 in the morning http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
    2. Login as Administrator
    3. Open Webstyle and update

In defense of Xara support it must be remembered that Xara products represent excellent value for money when compared with similar products. Its swings and roundabouts... you get an excellent product at a bargain-basement price but lose out when it comes to technically competent support http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Actually that is no excuse. Xara has on their return mail to me regarding their support that "at certain times during the year they get behind" and that is why the responce is slow. I find that to be a blatant lie....they are ALWAYS very slow in responding.
I have been with out access to any of my paid items (I have purchased all the added template packages) for a week with no responce from Xara.....that is unacceptable.
But what can a paying customer do????
    Nothing.

Hmmm.... true, if you have paid for something then you have every right to expect to receive it.

Now, if you lived in England you could always take a little trip down to Hemel Hempstead and have a personal chat with the guys and gals... With a handle like Weapon X you would certainly get my full attention http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

But on a more serious note, if you try the offpeak hours I am sure that you will be able to download your updates. It has worked for me most of the time. Good Luck.
