In the main Xara Forum there is an interesting thread about filling the spaces bounded by lines. It was a surprise to me that there is a technique for doing it. (Visit the thread here).

Playing with the technique I created the attached banner image. Each one of the little squares is a seperate shape.

    Ross

It looks like you discovered Xara's Secret Gradient Mesh fill tool :-)

What is so cool about this forum is the way ideas are built upon and taken to the next level by inventive and creative folks such as yourself, and the other talented Xartists and Xealots.

Grat "mesh warping" technique, Ross! Now if we only could get mesh warping for REAL in the next version of XX! Both Illustrator 9 and and Expression 2 have this - wonderful tools.

    One more thing to add...

When I used the lines/add/break method the result was as if another shape had been sliced. All the little shapes were almost touching each other. To get more space between the shapes I used Xara's contour tool and its fantastically useful feature called "inset path". (If you don't know use the contour/inset-path combo - do yourself a favour and play with it to learn its power).

Next I think I should import this mesh like shape into xara3d and see what happens!

I did import the same banner shapes into xara3d. The outcome of some playing can be found in this "Mars!" thread.

    Regards, Ross

PS - thanx for all the nice comments!
