The Xara wood carving workshop is fun! For the following example I tried applying bevels to quickshape thingies. The result looks very much like the carving style known as "chip carving" which often features geometric designs.

It is my understanding that many novice wood carvers start with chip carving. Here in Nova Scotia, folk artists used to use chip carving to decorate homemade picture frames.

Going in the opposite path from all the beautiful fine-grained wood, I decided to try something closer to home and more rustic.

One sees a lot of rough wood furniture in New Mexico that has the "Santa Fe" look, or to put it another way, it has a tortured, rough crafted look to it.

I accomplished this effect by building many layers of transparency and also using one of the Stone fill patterns, the one that looks like lichen on a rock, as a Bitmap transparency. This created the peeling paint effect.

    Wot you think?

The name is Charles Rennie MacIntosh. Calling someone Renee, rather than Rennie, could, in the wrong circles, lead to the "Glasgow Kiss". This is the rapid conjunction of the forehead of the addressed to the nose of the speaker.

Gary your Santa Fe look is great! You are a master of graceful decay!

Peter -- Young Huss doesn't answer my e-mail any more. Not sure what happened to old Dave.

GOC -- Of course it is Rennie Macintosh not Renee. And thank you no, I do not want to be on the receiving end of the Glassgow Kiss.

    Sorry about that.

    Too late?

It's hard to find good carving wood on island.
I like to use a large tool to hack out the basic shape and then finish off the fine details with something more exact, like a chainsaw or 2.

It was almost done when I got an error on save.
I knew something was wrong when "zoom drawing" put illustration up in the left corner with a bunch of empty space showing.
I was able to recover the .bak file from the temp directory and finish it.
